I was reading through Matthew 5 the other day when I came across the “Sermon on the mount”. I have a habit of skimming through the bible. For some reason I was struck at this simple passage.

“You’re blessed when your at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.”
— Matthew 5:3 The Message

Amazing!! At this moment in time I feel like I’m at the end of rope. It is not easy getting laid off and having to look for a new job. But, God tells us we are blessed during these times. We are blessed when we can rely on God to get us through. This passage in James is an echo of Jesus’ words in Matthew.

“Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes our way, let it be an opportunity for joy. For when your faith is is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow, so let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.
–James 1:2-4 NLT

So when we feel like we are poor, helpless and at the end of our rope. We are blessed. We should live like we are. We are children of God. And that is what I plan to do.

yo mark… this is an awesome site and the maessage is so awesome too. it really applies to my life right now too in the fact i am grounded from basically my life, parents took my car keys, and can’t go on a date with my g/f for 4 weeks. This is really a test of not only my faith but also our (my g/f’s and i) relationshp. And i have also read in 2 Corinthians 4: 8-10
“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. Through suffering, these bodies of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies”
so through our pains and sufferings we become closer to our savior and like in 2 corinthinans 12:10
“Since i know it is all for Christ’s good, i am quite content with my weaknesses and insults, hardship, and persucutions, and calamities. For when i am weak, then I am strong”
